Sonahat Bridge is located in Paikchharaiyan, 6km east of Bhurungamari upazila headquarters of Kurigram district. In 1887-1887, the English railway station was constructed as part of the railway line that was set up for Gohahati to go to Manipur, India, from Lalmonirhat to Bhutungamari for their convenience and services. The bridge is about 1200 feet long. During the 1971 war of liberation, the freedom fighters broke a part of the bridge It is the erstwhile MCC of Kurigram-1 constituency of former Kurigram district of Kurigram during the era of President Ershad government, and prominent politician, Mantromuk Tiger warrior Bhurungamari demanded the death of the first upazila chairman Late Shamsul Haq Chowdhury, appearing for the reformation of Sonahat Bridge several times in the National Parliament It was again repaired in the time of the mourning Jatiya Party MP Late A A, B, M Shahidul Islam Bachchu. This bridge was built on the river Dudhkkumar. Now it is used as a normal bridge.
